“This really was paradise”
We took the 8 day/ 7 night land & sea package the first week of December, on the recommendation of a friend who had been to Puerta Ayora some months before. I was looking for a land-based tour of the Galapagos Islands because my husband’s mal de mer makes him adverse to cruise ships. That Finch Bay is the nicest place to stay on the island, there can be no doubt. In addition, their ship is the finest vessel for excursions to the other islands. The food is very good, meals were interesting and we were certainly never hungry. Also, the service is spot on – friendly and professional.
Our naturalist/guide for the week was a native: knowledgeable, charming and fun! He really brought the wildlife and the habitat challenges to life for us as well as the history of the Galapagos and its relationship with the rest of Ecuador. All the excursions provided a slightly different aspect of the islands, and there was plenty of time for swimming and snorkeling. We got to be in the water (on different days) with baby sea lions, penguins, marine iguanas and sea turtles. What more could you ask for!
The only things that didn’t stand out at Finch Bay were the wifi (understandable) and the wine (execrable). Overall we were thrilled with our stay, and the diversity of the locations, animals and experiences that came with the package we did. Finch Bay was a very satisfying alternative to a cruise-based Galapagos vacation. Our Finch Bay Suite provided such a lovely water view I doubt I’ll ever forget it. Many thanks to the hotel for a beautifully orchestrated holiday.
